During our grandparents' era, the famous "spring cleaning" – known as "les à-fonds" in Switzerland – was a deeply rooted habit in people's homes. A way to say goodbye to winter. This good practice that was thought to be forgotten is still essential today, as better insulated and heated homes are a breeding ground for microorganisms and dust mites. The risk of developing allergies is increasing, as shown by studies that estimate half of the world's population will suffer from allergies by 2050. Check out our guide to discover the benefits of a proper spring clean!

What's the point of this big clean?

You don't think your house is that dirty... However, in our daily lives, there are many areas of our homes that we don't take the time to clean. We mostly clean the things that are urgent, important and visible! The change of season is a good opportunity for those kitchen cupboards and wardrobes to be opened, emptied, cleaned and organised! It's also a good time to clean door frames and crevices where dust has settled. Get rid of those thick layers of dust that have accumulated under your furniture, as well as dirt that stains lamps, carpets, curtains, light switches and door handles... You suddenly think it might be a good idea to go over all these places...

Cleaning alone is not enough

Cleaning alone is not enough

Wiping with a cloth? Yes, but not just that. A house that looks clean is not necessarily free of pathogenic microorganisms, dust mites, bacteria, fungi and viruses. Dirt is often invisible and harmful to health. That’s why spring cleaning can help you tackle anything you don’t already do in your cleaning routine. But be careful: limit the use of chemical products. If you tend to overuse them, under the impression that your home is cleaner afterwards, you should know that they are responsible for high levels of indoor pollution and pose risks to your health and the environment. This is why it’s essential to use gentle cleaning products followed by a natural method such as steam to disinfect objects, surfaces or fabrics.
